Yes, they're actually growing on the side of the house. I discovered them while mowing the lawn a few weeks ago.
And when I lived with my parents, our previous neighbor gave me a few lily plants which have multiplied into a large patch of lilies over the last 20 years. They smell heavenly when they're blooming, especially since a huge Korean lilac bush nearby (that I planted years ago as a wimpy stick) is always blooming at the same time. I wish you can bottle that smell!
I love lily of the valley-the name too and you have taken great photos of them here. It is hard to believe they are real flowers they are so perfect, white and waxy looking.
when i was a child a neighbour gave me a bottle of lily of the valley perfume. The sight & smell always brings me back to that time, and to that neighbour, who was like a grandmother. Thank-you for reminding me of her. Its funny you should post this, because yesterday I noticed some wildflowers next to my garden and I wondered could that really be lily of the valley?
"Above all, it's hard learning to live with vivid mental images of scenes I cared for and failed to photograph. It is the edgy existence within me of these unmade images that is the only assurance that the best photographs are yet to be made."
